الملخص

Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is  a multidisciplinary study approach that sheds light on the complicated links between language, power, and society. According to this approach, language both contributes to and affects reality in society. The purpose of this paper is to examine two of Sylvia Plath's most famous poems, "Bitter Strawberries" and "Edge" . Plath's first and last published pieces are represented by these two poems. Fairclough (1989/1996) offers his three-dimensional model for critical analysis of texts and speech. His model is regarded as the basic concept of CDA . This is due to the fact that he was the first person to establish a conceptual framework that offered direction for the progress of CDA research in the future. A three-step procedure with interlinked discourse elements makes up Fairclough's three-dimensional model. By analyzing the poems using the three dimensions of Fairclough's model—(description:text analysis),(interpretation: discursive practice), and (explanation:sociocultural practice)—the research advances a thorough comprehension of the lexical choices, metaphors, and syntactic structures in these poems that delineate their themes and meanings, the variations in language use between the two poems, and the implicit concepts symbolized by linguistic features and imagery.
